Obituary for John Jones

John  Jones
John Wesley Jones, 100, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m., until service time Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Independence or to the organization of the donor’s choice. John was born December 14, 1917, in Pleasant Hill, MO to Andrew Jackson Jones, Sr and Mary Alice (Woodworth) and has been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1935 and later from Missouri Valley College in 1939. He proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked for Employees Reinsurance Corporation from 1951 until his retirement in 1982 as vice-president of data processing. He had also worked for BC/BS and Business Men’s Assurance. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence, MO, the Duplicate Bridge Group of Independence and started the first Duplicate Bridge Group in the 1950’s. He enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, woodworking and spending time with family, family gatherings and making Christmas trees out of jewelry. Survivors include: a son, Doug Jones and wife Colleen of Independence, MO; a daughter, Donna Leslie and husband Terry of Independence, MO; his longtime friend, Dorothy Hobbs, of Kansas City, MO; 6 grandchildren, Shawn Johnson, Nicole Bicknell, Tom Moore, Suzanne Leslie, Andrew Leslie and Sheila Farrier; 10 great grandchildren, Kayla Craig, Seth Craig, J.C. Bicknell, Tanner Johnson, Lyndsey Johnson, Samantha Johnson, Katie Farrier, Michael Farrier, Cade Deutsch Leslie, Wes Deutsch Leslie and a great great grandchild, Kodi Craig. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Morgan Jones in 1994, a daughter, Mary Senter Moore in 1975, his parents, 5 brothers, David Allen Jones, Buster Jones, Andrew Jackson Jones, Jr.; Charles Edward Jones and William Gordon Jones and 2 sisters, Mary Alice Jones Rhodelander and Missouri Jones Bailey.
