Ralph “Abe” R. Abel, Sr., 91, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on October 31, 2021.
Ralph was born in Hastings, Pennsylvania on July 9, 1930 to John and Catherine Abel and was one of eight siblings. He joined the United States Marine Corps after high school. During his service, he served his country through the Korean and Vietnam Wars with multiple deployments through this time. Ralph retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years of service as an E9 master gunnery sergeant.
Following his retirement from the military, Ralph moved to the Kansas City area. He spent several years working for Fixtures Furniture. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and gardening.
Ralph married the love of his life, Doreen Abel, and together, they raised 5 sons.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and his grandson, Daniel.
He is survived by his loving wife; brothers, Claire Abel and George Abel; sons, Ralph Abel, Clifford Abel, Ricky (Diana) Zagorski, Michael (Janet) Zagorski and Kim (Teresa) Zagorski; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Speaks Suburban Chapel with burial following at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
