Carol Ann Adkins

July 21, 1940 — September 21, 2021

Carol Adkins (Scogin) of Independence, Missouri, passed away in her home on September 21, 2021. She was 81 years old.

Carol was the youngest daughter of Don & Mildred Scogin.
She graduated from Van Horn High School and went on to pursue a post-secondary education at Graceland University, Kansas City Business College and Gateway College of Evangelism; obtaining multiple degrees over the span of her lifetime. In 1961, she met and married Edward Adkins and, to this union, were born 4 children.

Carol was a devoted mother who, wearing many hats, also managed a career as a Clerk Typist with MO-PAC/Union Pacific Railroad for several years before finally retiring to focus on her dreams of becoming a teacher in the Christian ministry.
She was a member of the Lighthouse Church in Independence, MO and, throughout her life, humbly delighted in opportunities to volunteer her time and skills in service to the Lord. In her spare time, she also enjoyed bringing new life to old mowers, the periodic shopping spree on HSN and QVC, a bowl of buttered popcorn with a good old-fashioned movie, a little apostolic music by Lance Appleton, the KC Chiefs and, over the course of her life, traveling both domestically and abroad. Some of her fondest memories were of time spent in Jerusalem.

Carol was tireless in learning, often selfless to a fault, quick-witted with a sense of humor that, sometimes, rode a bit on the dark side and, in the eyes of her children, she was quite the pioneer for women of her generation. She was raised on a small farm in rural America and, as a result, familiar with one room schools, daily chores and the outhouse experience but, always up to a challenge, she never shied away from the hustle and bustle of the city or the numerous relocations that, for a season, came with the territory of being the wife of a Marine. With or without a man by her side, she was courageous and inspiring, a woman of few words but, when impressed to do so, she spoke her mind without reservation. She was the best at trusting in the Lord to provide whenever handing over her last dollar to a stranger in need. She recognized her blessings and was quick to give credit to the Lord. She lived a long and, for the most part, healthy life but, more than words can possibly convey, she will be dearly missed.

Carol is survived by her 4 daughters; Michelle (Robert), Lisa (Mark), Barbara (Jason) and Cathey, 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild still in the womb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald & Mildred Scogin; her siblings, Don, Betty Jean & James.
