Caroline Viola Adkins

Caroline Viola Adkins, of Independence, MO passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019, surrounded by her daughters. She was 87 years old. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 8th from 9-10:00am with a funeral service following at 10:00am, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Washington Cemetery.

Caroline was born on September 26, 1931. At the age of 16, she married Billie Gene Adkins on August 19, 1948. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters. She also worked in the cafeteria at Ott Elementary for several years. Caroline was a devoted Christian and member of Calvary Baptist Church in Independence.

She is preceded in death by her husband Billie Gene Adkins; sister, Phyllis Bowlin; and brother, Tody Allwood.

The surviving family members she leaves behind are her daughters, Linda Marmoy and Shirley Gard; four grandchildren, Sean Marmoy, Matthew Marmoy, Rachael Wittenberger, and Angela Stevenson; nine great-grandchildren, Lane Gaunt, Jack Stevenson, Jonah Wittenberger, Michael Marmoy, Caroline Stevenson, Adia Wittenberger, Elias Wittenberger, and Miranda Stevenson; as well as, her two sisters, Patsy O’Neal and Ina (Virgil) Pedersen.
