Leroy Akers

June 18, 1928 — January 15, 2006

LeRoy Akers, 77, of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday, January 15, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. Donations in his name to the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. LeRoy was born June 18, 1928 in Lee�s Summit, MO but lived all of his life in Independence. He served in the U.S Army during the Korean conflict. He received the Army Occupational medal while in Stugard, Germany. Inducted into service November 15, 1950. Discharged October 31, 1952 as a Corporal. LeRoy went to work for the Independence Fire Department in 1953 and worked four years. Left the department and returned April 6, 1960. LeRoy retired as Captain July 1, 1983. LeRoy was a retired member of I.A.F.F. Local #781, Independence 76 Fire Company, the American Legion, Tirey J. Ford Post #21, VFW Post 1000, all of Independence and Independence Lagers Retiree�s. He was an avid bowler, bowling in all local lanes, as well as King Louie in Kansas City, KS. He loved hunting and fishing and life in general, especially time spent with his family and friends. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Nora (Watkins Akers and one sister, Eleanora Thompson. LeRoy leaves behind an loving wife of 40 years, Helen of the home, and their families consisting of six children. Three sons, Leslie Charles and wife Mary of Garden City, MO; Randolph Eugene and wife Kelly of Oak Grove, MO, and Thomas Randall and wife Wynee of Sedalia, MO; three daughters, Sharon Breshears and husband Norman of Oak Grove, MO, Angela Seetin and husband Danny of Polo, MO and Debra Thompson and husband Kirk of Blue Springs. MO; three brothers, Albert Akers, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Moline, KS, RC Akers of Lowery City, MO and Kenneth Akers of Independence, MO; a sister, Juanita Card and husband Harold of Carl Junction, MO and many dear grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
