On Jan. 29, 2017, Doris passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after waging a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. She was 88 years old.
She was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Irvin and Cecil Bly, and graduated from Raytown High School in 1945. In 1948, she married Pete Carrasco and together they raised five children.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Doris lived in Independence, MO and was a member of the New Walnut Park Community of Christ Church.
Doris loved to travel and made several road trips to North Carolina; Amana, Iowa; and Branson, MO. She shared a passion for country western music and adored artists like Mickey Gilley and The Platters. Going to auctions and class reunions were high on her list but it was sharing a meal and socializing with family and friends that she enjoyed the most.
Doris was widowed by her husbands, Pete Carrasco (1988) and Robert Akin (2010). She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shari Severeid and her parents and siblings.
Doris is survived by her four children: Sheila Grogan (John) of Loveland CO, Robert Carrasco (Phyllis) of Leavenworth, KS, Sharon Wernlund (Chris) of Palm City, FL, and Debi Moore of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1-2pm, with funeral service at 2pm, both Friday, Feb. 3, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. She will be laid to rest in Mound Grove Cemetery following the service.
