Ruth Olive Albers

Ruth Olive Albers, 92, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, October 18th at Rosewood Health Care Center. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24th at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Ruth was born December 16, 1912 in Arma, KS. She graduated from high school in Pittsburg, KS. When she married Bert Albers, they moved to Kansas City, MO to follow his job with Kansas City Southern Railroad. Together, they built their dream home in Independence, MO in the middle of the depression. Ruth�s family members were skilled craftsmen and they helped build the brick home. As an adult, Ruth contracted Multiple Sclerosis. Her artistic talents were compromised as the disease progressed. Eventually she was confined to a wheelchair. Being in a wheelchair allowed Ruth to pursue her passion to use a sewing machine for creativity. Her loving relationship with her devoted husband Bert was cut short when he died from a fall down a flight of stairs at a youthful 62. Despite her handicap, Ruth lived alone in her dream home for many years before moving into a "rest home�. A careless smoker burned that facility to the ground, however, Ruth escaped the fire unscathed in the middle of the night. Eventually her fondest dream was realized when she was able to move to Rosewood Health Center at The Groves. Mrs. Albers is survived by her daughter Karrin, of Hopland, CA, her son Nicki, of Ramona, CA; granddaughter Lesa Fawn Erecius; a niece Edra Easom; and four great-grandchildren.
