James V. Alderson, Jr., 68, Excelsior Springs, MO passed away Monday, February 9, 2015. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 13th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14th at the chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Jim was born April 27, 1946 in Independence, as eldest of five children to Wilma (Boosinger) and James V. Alderson, Sr. He was raised in Sugar Creek and was inducted to the Football Hall of Fame for William Chrisman High School. After graduation, he attended Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff on a full scholarship. He later completed his Bachelors of Science at Central Missouri State University. Jim spent his career in banking working for Manufacturers of Hanover, Morgan Chase, Community Bank of Excelsior Springs, and eventually as Sr. Vice President of Lawson Bank. On May 11, 1968 he married his beloved Cheryl Lee (Shields) and together they raised their son. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church, President of the Quarterback Club of Excelsior Springs, participant in Optimists Club, Rotary, and board member of the Mineral Water Bowl Game. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, and collecting knives and coins. His family remembers him as good natured, supportive, and loving.
Survivors include wife of 46 years, Lee Alderson; brother, Gary Alderson (Joy) of Independence, MO; sister, Cheryl Robertson (William) of Kansas City, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in passing by his parents, son, James V. Alderson, III; and brothers, Robert and William Alderson. The family encourages contributions to the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church in his memory.
