Alice Joan Gromer Short, 93, of Independence, MO, passed away on July 29, 2023. Joan was born in Chanute, KS on November 14, 1929 to Guy Walter Gromer and Ruth Elizabeth Hill Gromer. She was a graduate of Chanute High School and from the Beauty University of St. Joseph. She was a cosmetologist for many years in the St. Joseph and Independence areas and served as Vice President on the Board of Cosmetology. She opened her own successful business named La Femme Beauty Shop. She was a beautiful and elegant woman that shared her talent with many others. Joan was a devoted Christian and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She was one of the founders and volunteered at the Mustard Seed Thrift Store. She had been involved in the Vestry, The Order of the Daughters of the King, and as the Cookie Lady for Coffee Hour at Trinity Episcopal Church of Independence. She always said that church was her best club. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Club. One of the greatest pleasures for Joan was having lunch or dinner with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, June Short; daughter, Jamie Tiller; son, John R. Rensing; stepson, Theodore Short; grandson, John A. Rensing, and brother David Gromer. Joan is survived by her son, Mike Rensing (Gina Guest) of St. Joseph, MO; her daughter, Gail Wohlcke and husband, Kris of Lancaster, CA; son-in-law, David Tiller of Tampa, FL; daughter-in-law, Chris Rensing of Independence, MO; stepson, James Jeffrey Short of Frankfort, KY; stepdaughter, Nancy Blake and husband, Norman of Rising Fawn, GA; stepdaughter-in-law, Sara L. Short of Lufkin, TX; sister, Janne Reddell of Morro Bay, CA. Grandchildren, Mickie Tiller Bishop and husband, Scott of Olympia, WA; Josh Andrews and wife, Julie of Libertyville, IL; Brent Meadows of California City, CA; Jesse Rensing of Independence, MO; Katie Koch and husband, Matt of Parkville, MO; Charlie Rensing and wife, Eden of Kansas City, MO; and step grandchildren. Great Grandchildren, Emerson Rensing, Henri Rensing, Ryan Andrews, Megan Andrews, Jonah Meadows, Lena Koch, and Maren Koch and step great grandchildren. The world was a better place because we had someone as special as Joan in our lives. May you each be blessed and feel the love she had in her heart for each one of you, as we celebrate a life well lived.  A special thanks to Dr. Vardakis, Sherry, Wanda, Ellie, Margaret, friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Blue Springs. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 1433 NW R.D. Mize Rd, Blue Springs, Missouri 64105. Reception following.
