Wilma Vallette Allen

Wilma Vallette Allen, 90, passed away on July 16, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
Wilma was born on September 20, 1929 in Brookfield, MO, the daughter of Paul Prewitt and Emily Elizabeth Lewis. At an early age, Wilma showed a great interest and talent in sketching and drawing, and even won a Hallmark contest for her artistic ability. She attended Brookfield High School and married J W “Dub” Allen on July 3, 1948, and they were blessed with three children. It was important to Dub and Wilma that their children were born in the town of Brookfield, but the family resided in the Kansas City area for the remainder of their years. Dub worked as a painter, and Wilma was a homemaker and was employed at Tension Envelopes, then Midwest Envelopes. She ultimately worked for King Radio, where she made PC boards for aviation purposes, and she retired from there after many years of service. Wilma and her family made many happy memories at the lake, visiting relatives and friends, and getting some quality sunbathing in with a screwdriver nearby. She loved anything to do with fast cars – she cheered on Dub’s racecar named “Timid Turtle” and she took delight in watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhart, Sr. She was not shy around motorcycles either - she rode with Dub to California and Tennessee in her earlier years, and on her 88th birthday, with a big grin on her face, she got to ride to dinner in style on the back of her son’s motorcycle. She was always ready to join in on quail-hunting or skeet-shooting with the guys. In sum, she was adventurous and game for anything, and she will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her three children: Russ Allen (wife Sandy), Cheryl Iiams, and Bob Allen (wife Tanda); seven grandchildren: Keith Allen, Travis Wells, Sean Benavides, Bryan Iiams, Stacey Iiams, Billy Iiams, and Vanessa Allen; 12 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; one great-great-grandson; many extended family and friends; and one beloved chihuahua-poodle mix named Sassy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dub; her parents Paul Prewitt and Elizabeth “Toodles” Lewis; two grandsons Adam Veach and Brett Allen; and a sister Louise Lewis.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, from 6-8pm, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. She will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookfield, MO, on Wednesday, July 22.
