William Ames

Bob, Billy Bob, Ames, 88, of Buckner, MO passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Heart of God Fellowship 3720 N. Buckner-Tarsney Rd, Buckner, MO, 64016. A service will follow at 6:00 pm at the church. Bob was born March 20, 1928 to William Henry and Pauline Ames in Dahinda, IL. He graduated from Halls Memorial High School and served in the United States Navy. He married Shirley (Thomas) on December 14, 1950 and they had 3 children: Sheila, Robbie and Brett. Together they ran the Cozy Corner Café in Buckner, MO until 1965. Then he worked as an agent for Great Central Insurance Company. He founded the Ames Insurance Agency in Blue Springs, MO in 1970. In 1995, he retired to travel with Shirley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his buddies. Bob will be remembered by his sister Janet and Tom Mershon; daughter Sheila Biegler (Brian); grandchildren Scott (Janis), Matt (Kimmie); great grandchildren Tyler and Hailee, Doodle and Petunia; daughter in law Alice Ames; granddaughter Amanda Lawson; great granddaughter Maddi; his wonderful son Brett who took care of him these last few years and Bob’s granddog Ping; his very good friend Bobbie; Marty and numerous friends and other family members. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, and son Robbie. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund c/o First Baptist Church of Buckner 131 S. Hudson, Buckner, MO, 64016 and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
