Mary Anderson, 95 formerly of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021. She was a graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO and was a homemaker most of her life. She had also worked in the cafeteria at Nowlin Junior High School for several years. Known to many as “Nana Banana”, she baked hundreds of banana breads and gave them all away. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ralph “Andy” Anderson. She is survived by; her son, Bill (Michele) Anderson of Platte City, MO; daughters, Marge (Hague) Howey of Omaha, NE, Cathy (Jim) McQuerry of Lee’s Summit, MO, Deborah Anderson of Greenville, NC and step daughter, Judy Knox of Charleston, WV; sisters, Helen Kent of Lee’s Summit, MO, Theresa Calovich and Dorothy Lucas of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Brett, Matt, Kara, Eric, Gordon and Whitney and 10 great grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 9-10 am Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. A rosary will be recited 10 a.m. followed by private family services and interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. A memorial Mass at St. Ann’s Catholic Church will be held July 2021. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
