Gordon C. Andes, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away, Friday, July 20, 2007 at Carmel Hills Nursing Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers donations to Camp Doniphan Retreat Center, Excelsior Springs, MO. Gordon was born September 19, 1919 in Kingston, MO to Jacob and Minnie (Swenson) Andes and moved to Independence at a young age and attended Independence High School. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class from 1942-45 and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars. Gordon married Vlora Mary (Jacobsen) in April 1946. Together they were owners/operators of the Jacobsen’s Market in Independence, MO until 1960. After retiring from the grocery business he worked in maintenance for A-Z Manufacturing. He was a member of the Laurel Club and managed the snack shop for the Community of Christ World Conference for over 30 years. Gordon made multiple contributions at Camp Doniphan and the Community of Christ Independence Campus. He was an active member of the Independence Neighborhood Council for several years. He was an active member of the Community of Christ Church and attended the Spring Branch, Stover Park, Liberty Street and Parkview Congregations. Gordon was preceded in death by is wife Vlora of 60 years, his parents and seven siblings. He is survived by a daughter, Vicky Patience and son-in-law Gerald Patience of Kansas City, MO; a grandson and his wife, Jerome and Aimee Patience of Independence, MO; a great granddaughter Ryleigh Patience; step granddaughters, Pam Gilbert and Linda Patience and their families of Lake of the Ozarks; a step grandson David Patience and his family of Raytown, MO and lots of friends.
