Dever Wayne Antes of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. She was surrounded by family and friends during her final days, touching each of them one last time before being called home to heaven. Dever was born September 18, 1914 in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1934, Dever married her high school sweetheart David Merritt Antes in Miami, Florida. They enjoyed 70 years of joy before his death in 2004. Dever and Merritt moved to North Carolina after their retirement and spent thirty years making every hour happy hour. Dever and Merritt had: one daughter, Joann Wyman; two grandchildren, Jim (Patrice) Wyman and Sue (Mark) Schaefer, after Jim’s passing in 1998, the family was blessed to stay close to Patrice (Thomas) Czerkawski; six great-grandchildren, Alex (Preston) Griffith, Josh Gunter, Elizabeth Schaefer, James Wyman, Joseph and John Czerkawski; and one great-great granddaughter Vivian Griffith. Dever’s passing marks the end of an era over a century in the making. Dever touched the lives of family and friends in so many ways. Some believe she was a for-runner for the woman’s evolution, with a feminine twist. Strong enough to accomplish great things; soft enough to matter. Smart enough to understand the most complex relationships; centered in both her personal and work lives. It doesn’t matter how you remember the life and love of Dever, because… we loved you then, we love you now and we’ll love you always O’Ma!
