Shirley Anne Applebaugh, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 2, 1935, in Kansas City, MO, to Walter and Sylvia (Graham) Nelson. Shirley graduated East High of Kansas City in 1953 and went on to graduate from Kansas City Business College. She was an executive assistant for Comm-Air before retiring in 1993. Shirley belonged to the American Businesswomen’s Association for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and reading. She also loved attending sporting events, musicals, dinner theater, and listening to live music.
Shirley is survived by he husband of 43 years Don Applebaugh of Independence, MO, daughter Cheryl Clifton of Pleasant Valley, MO, son William Streeter of Independence, MO, brother Robert Nelson of North Kings Town, Rhode Island, Step-daughters Robyn Locke of Paola, Kansas and Traci (Rob) Ficken of Olathe, Kansas, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Sylvia Nelson.
The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.
