Leroy Autenrieth

August 30, 1931 — April 20, 2014

LeRoy Allen Autenrieth, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, April 20th 2014. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24th at Trinity Church of the Nazarene; 19800 E Truman Rd. Independence, MO 64056. Inurnment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later time.
LeRoy was born August 30, 1931 in Rhineland, MO to Edgar Marvin and Velma Ruth (Medloch) Autenrieth as one of five children. He attended Vandalia High School, received his GED and later, a degree in Diesel Mechanics from Devry. He proudly served in the Army as Corporal during the Korean Conflict. LeRoy married Wilma O. (Stampfler) on July 29, 1955 and together raised four children. They lived in numerous cities of Michigan and Illinois until 2001 when they moved to Independence to spend their last years. He worked for numerous employers but mostly as a farmer, maintenance-man, or diesel mechanic. LeRoy was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, enjoying trips on his Honda Goldwing with his wife and participating in the Christian Motorcycle Association. He was also a member of Gideons, Kiwanis, and a Goldwing Club. He was a humble Christian and loving husband, father, and grandpa.
LeRoy is survived by daughter, Cheryl Whitby (Carl) of Independence, MO; daughter, Carol Wilcoxen (Bill) of Little York, IL; son, Kevin Autenrieth (Sharon) of Maryville, IL; daughter, Ann Dalton of Canton, IL; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Orland Autenrieth of Vandalia, IL; brother, Eldon Autenrieth (Barb) of Mt. Vernon, IL; and sister Juanita Tschudy (James) of Oswego, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Merlin Marvin Autenrieth, and his beloved wife. The family encourages contributions to the Gideon’s International or to a charity of your choice in his memory.
