Robert L. Baber, Sr.

Robert L. Baber, Sr., 69, of Independence, Mo, passed away, Monday, March 8, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Rockwood Baptist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Robert was born May 24, 1934 in Garnett, KS. to Earnest and Alice (Blundell) Baber. He grew up in the Kansas City area and attended Paseo High School. He worked as a fabricator for Kansas City Kenworth for 22 years until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church, UAW Local #710, Orchestra band at Quigley Studios, and had played semi-pro baseball in the Ban Johnson League as a pitcher. Robert was known as a man who could fix anything; he was loved by all who knew him and had a passion for all types of animals. He once said that someday he would see all of his animals in Heaven as he was sure they would be there to greet him. He was married to Idella Wurtz on July 5, 1963, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; a son, Robert Lee Baber, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Independence, MO; a daughter, Belinda Kay Jarvis and her husband, Matthew of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Elizabeth Valentine of Kansas City, MO; 5 grandchildren, Robert Lee Baber III, Jessica Marie Baber, Chad Adam Baber, Anthony Patrick Jarvis and Heather Marie Jarvis; and a brother-in-law, Chester Ramsey of Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lucille Ramsey in 1998 and Wilma Shelton in 1995. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Rockwood Baptist Church
