Mary J. Bailey, 91, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Mary was born May 15, 1923 in Kansas City, MO to Edgar G. and Pearl M. (Kuhn) Dunivan. She was raised by her grandparents and graduated from Northeast High School. The day after her 18th birthday she married her beloved David A. Bailey. Together they had four children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spent 68 years in her childhood home in NE Kansas City. Mary enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and other crafts. She and David enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Her family remembers her sense of humor, loving heart, gentle spirit, and legendary cooking.
Survivors include son, David W. Bailey (Frances) of Independence, MO; daughters, Linda Bailey of Independence; and Marilyn Bailey-Menichetti of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Julie Dohring (Tom), Christina Ballinger (Ken), Jim Walker (Heather), Kimberly Edney (Chad Stockton) and Jennifer Helmich (Brandon); and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, David; daughter, Judith Kowalski; twin brother, John Dunivan; and three stepsisters. The family encourages contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
