Wallace R. Baird, 91, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012.
Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO 64055. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills East Cemetery.
Wally was born May 23, 1921 in Independence, MO. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and his ship the USS Glennon was torpedoed and sunk during the war. Wally re-enlisted in the Navy and served a total of 22 years. He worked for Walt Disney Studios in California before retiring and moving back to Independence. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers; and a nephew.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Russell; brother, Harold L. Baird and many nieces and nephews. His niece, Betty and her husband Keith North took care of Wally for several years. He will be missed by his family.
