Helen Delores Baker

May 14, 1938 — July 17, 2021

Helen Delores Baker passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, July 17, 2021 after a battle with a rare blood cancer. She was 83. Helen was born to Martha Bryant on May 14, 1938 in Sedalia, Missouri.

Helen was a brave determined woman and had always dreamt of having a family of her own. After meeting the love of her life, Gene Baker, they were married and began building a life together. Gene and Helen were married 37 wonderful years. Helen lived for her family. Gene helped her create a beauty parlor in the basement of their home so that she could continue to raise her kids and grandkids without having to skip a beat. Her house of beauty, “De Joli Cheavoux” was in business for over 40yrs until she retired. Helen was very active in the lives of her children. She looked forward to the opportunity to be the scorekeeper for her son’s baseball games and even won herself a trophy at the end of every season where she was also known as the “Ferocious Kelly”. Needless to say, her presence was well known at the games and she was a proud momma! Helen and Gene were avid Royals fans. They held season tickets for 20yrs and loved rooting their favorite sports team on every chance they got. Every year Helen made a point to travel to the lake with her family for several weeks to enjoy boating and quality time with them. She looked forward to any chance to celebrate, especially the holidays. On Easter, Helen would make sure the entire family was dressed in their Sunday best and looked forward to attending the Easter service at Maywood Baptist Church where she remained a member for many years. Helen will always be remembered for her dance moves, taco Sundays, her knitting and kind spirit. She will be missed greatly.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Pamela Baker-Beaty; son Mark Baker (Elaine); grandchildren, Ashley Baker, Christopher Baker and Angela Baker; great grandchildren, Chloey Meldrum, Braxton Jarowitz and Lana Cofer Collins.

She’s preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; her parents and her son, Mike Baker.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 24th from 1-2pm at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Missouri with service to immediately follow at 2pm. Burial will take place at Mount Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Sarah Canon Cancer Institute in memory of Helen.
