Mr. Holly Carl Baker, 95 of Independence, MO passed away, Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Rosewood Health Center. Holly was born December 19, 1921 in Bowie, TX to H.C and Bertie (Phillips) Baker and has been a resident of Independence for 62 years. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII in Alaska, Germany and France and was highly decorated for his service receiving a Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts. He was in sales, and worked in various fields during his lifetime. He loved music and playing his guitar at Bluegrass festivals, Santa-Cali-Gon and Old Missouri Town. He was a man of strong faith, a former elder, and was a member of Fairmount Christian Church. He was a member of the International Rose O’Neill Club and Bonniebrook Foundation. Survivors include; his beloved wife of 74 years, Florence of the home; a son, Ken Baker of Independence, MO; 3 daughters, Carol Lewis of Excelsior Springs, MO, Bonnie Hirsch and husband Jim of Harrison, AR and Judy Baker of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Francis Marion, his sister, Dorothy Parker, 2 half brothers, Don Smith and Dale Smith, and a granddaughter, Melinda Hirsch-Turner.
