Byron Bertrand Banta Jr.

November 15, 1943 — July 5, 2018

Byron B. Banta, Jr, 74, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018. A memorial will be held Friday, July 20th, at 10:00am at The Chapel at John Knox Village; 400 N.W. Murray Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. (cross streets are Murray and O'Brien)

Byron was born on November 15, 1943, to Byron Sr. and Dorothy (Bullock) Banta in St. Louis, MO. He received his B.A. from Missouri Valley College and M.A. and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University along with a second M.A. from University of Missouri-Kansas City. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Throughout his career, Byron taught college, middle and elementary school students mostly in special education from 1974 to 2001 with many years as part of the faculty of the Kansas City, MO School District. After retirement, Byron volunteered at Truman Medical Center-Lakewood and the John Knox Village Foundation.

Byron is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary A. Banta of the home; his brother, Brady Banta and his wife, Melinda, of Jonesboro, AR. Countless loving family and friends, especially nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews were enriched by knowing Byron.

Memorial contributions to the John Knox Village Foundation are welcome.
