Barbara Vickery

Barbara Vickery, 87 passed away August 4, 2024. She was born in Kansas on April 25, 1937 to Neil and Dorothy Raynard. She was the second of seven children which included four girls and three boys.  

Barbara graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1955, when there was only one Shawnee Mission high school. She attended junior college in Kansas City Missouri, where she met Bill Vickery, her future husband. They were married on September 16, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Mission Kansas. Barbara and Bill had a son, Eric, born in November 1968. 

Barbara enjoyed sewing, reading, and spending time with her family. She was expertly skilled with her sewing machine, and she made all her own clothes. 

Barbara was raised in Kansas, but moved to Missouri when she married Bill. Barbara lived in Independence, MO until 2023, when she moved to an independent living center in Kearney, MO, where her son Eric lives. Barbara passed peacefully in her chair while watching TV.

 She is survived by her only child, Eric Vickery, and his wife Shari of Kearney, MO. Barbara had three grandchildren: Faith Vickery of, St. Louis, MO, Hope Vickery of Phoenix, AZ, and Luke Vickery of Omaha, NE. Barbara is also survived by two sisters: Bonnie Mundell and Alice Fish. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four siblings. 

 The family will greet friends from 1 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m., Monday at Valor Park Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley, MO.
