Marilyn Ann (Barber) Scott

Marilyn Ann (Barber) Scott, 88, a resident of Villages of Jackson Creek Assisted Living of Independence, Missouri, passed away at Centerpoint Hospital, Sunday, October 17, 2021 after a short hospitalization. A visitation to honor Marilyn will be held on Saturday, October 23, from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th Street, Independence, Missouri. A graveside inurnment will be held at White City, Kansas Cemetery with family and friends at a later date. Marilyn, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was born July 20, 1933 to Verne R. Barber and Myrtle A. (Peterson) Barber in White City, Kansas. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Saundra Kay Carpenter, her husband of 66 years, Vern D. Scott, and a sister, Marlene Folsom. She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Walters of Keats, Kansas; a son, Michael D. Scott, and wife Theresa (Teri) of Bates City, Missouri; son-in-law, James C. Carpenter of Kansas City, Missouri; four granddaughters, Keighly (Kevin) Hahn of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Kelsey Carpenter of Lawson, Missouri, Kendyl (Corey) Forsner of Richmond, Missouri, and Kaylen (Aaron) Pigg of Orrick, Missouri; and five great-grandchildren, Karleigh, Kyler, and Kroy Hahn, Triton Carpenter, and Rylan Kay Forsner, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marilyn graduated from White City High School in 1951. She and Vern were married October 17, 1951. She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Independence, Missouri. Marilyn worked at Petey Childers Pharmacy in Independence, Missouri from where she retired, after 20 years. She enjoyed taking care of her granddaughters and traveling with husband Vern on many family vacations and several cruises. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She will be missed by her friends and, most of all, her family. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Of Memphis, Tennessee in lieu of flowers.
