Betty Jane Barker of Independence, MO was called to her heavenly home on June 2, 2007. Born April 5, 1926 in Lexington, MO, the eldest child and only daughter of Marcel and Vera Polge, Betty graduated from Lexington High School in 1944, where she met the love of her life, Jack Barker. They married shortly before Jack joined the Coast Guard during World War II. Jack and Betty settled in Independence, MO after the war, where Jack owned and operated Maywood TV on Truman Road for over 43 years. Together, they proudly raised 5 children and were married nearly 50 years, until Jack’s passing in 1994.The Barkers were longtime members of VFW Post 1000 and the Fairmount Lions Club. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Billy F. Polge, and daughter Dr. Laurie Barker-Holman. Survivors include Ronald Barker of Lee’s Summit, MO (son), Larry Barker of Richmond. VA (son), Jacqueline Adams of Orlando, FL (daughter), Jeffrey Barker of North Kansas City, MO (son), Marcel E. Polge of Tulsa, OK (brother), 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, plus many other family members, friends and neighbors she deeply adored. Betty was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitation is Wednesday, June 6 from 6-8:00 pm at Carson-Speaks Chapel, Lexington & Fuller Streets in Independence, MO. The funeral will be held Thursday, June 7 at 10:00 am at Calvary Lutheran Church, 75th & Oak in Kansas City, MO, followed with burial at Lexington Memory Gardens in Lexington, MO. The family suggests contributions to the Betty Jane Barker Memorial Fund at Calvary Lutheran Church.
