Leola Caroline Barker, 78, of Kansas City, MO, passed away, Saturday, December 25, 2004. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Ascension Lutheran Church 4900 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO. Graveside services will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Walton, NE. Lee was born September 25, 1926 at the farm home of her parents Frederick and Julianna (Retzlaff) Hodtwalker near Walton, NE. She attended Walton high School and later Trinity Lutheran Church summer school. While working in Lincoln she met engineering student W. David Barker and they were married on December 26, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were married 55 wonderful years where she was a homemaker for their three children. After the children were raised, Lee became a skilled executive and legal secretary for various Kansas City firms including about 10 years for Spencer, Fane, Britt & Browne. For most of her married life she lived in Independence and was active in Lutheran church work. She traveled extensively, loved ballroom dancing and enjoyed social activities with friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister Audrey Cassidy. She is survived by her husband W. David Barker; a daughter Vicki Sorensen; son Scott Barker and his wife Carol; son Douglas Barker and his wife Mary; six grandchildren, Tom Anderson, Jeff and Stephanie Sorensen, Jake and Audrey Barker, and Paul Barker. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Ascension Lutheran Church or Hospice of Kansas City.
