Peggy Ann Barker, of Blue Springs, MO, a strong woman whose main goal in her life, was her family and always made sure they were taken care of, even until the end, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. She was 86 years old. Peggy was born on July 5, 1935, in Arkansas, to William Martin and Ethel Mae Loe (Hill). She graduated from Manual High School in Kansas City, MO in the class of 1953. Right out of high school, Peggy started her first career at Western Auto in Kansas City as an illustrator for the marketing department. She was a wonderful single mother who raised four sons, Bradley, Frank, John, and James. For over 20 dedicated years, Peggy worked as a tracer for United Parcel Service, but her true passion was volunteering at the hospital, and library and working with children with special needs. From pecan pie, to French crepes, Peggy was a foodie, who had a sweet tooth. At any meal, she preferred dessert with a cup of black coffee. Peggy was an awesome pierogi maker, and was known for her famous brisket. She was a spunky and fierce woman, who enjoyed taking mini excursions with her sister-in-law, Phyllis Loe. In her spare time, you could find Peggy curled up with her dog, Dolly, reading a good mystery novel, or configuring a crossword puzzle. She enjoyed flower gardening, especially tulips and yellow roses and she will be deeply missed by so many.
Peggy is survived by her sons, Frank (Elvira) Barker and James Barker; grandchildren, Evangelina (Windell “Jr.”) Johnson and Javier Barker; great-grandchildren, Ava Barker and Johan Barker; siblings, Billie Mae Cyrus, Don Loe, and Betty Burchett; niece and long-time caregiver, Katrina Lickteig; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons, Bradley Barker and John Barker; siblings, William Loe, Blanche Swafford, and Robert Loe; and parents, William and Ethel Loe.
A visitation to honor Peggy will be held from 9-10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7, with a funeral service to follow, at 10:00 a.m., both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. She will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens in Independence, MO.
