Marjorie Lee Barlow, 92 of Independence, MO passed away at home Thursday May 20, 2021. She will be laid to rest in Mound Grove Cemetery after a private family memorial service. Marjorie loved gardening, art and international travel. She was born July 11, 1928 in Council Bluffs, IA to Arthur Earl and Maude Floretta (Miller) Dempsey. She graduated from high school in Council Bluffs and studied at Graceland College and Tulsa University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Education. A much loved first-grade teacher, Marjorie taught in public schools in Tulsa and Norman, OK and Independence, MO until she retired in 1995. She was a lifelong member of Community of Christ church, and attended the Good Shepherd congregation in Independence. Survivors include her 4 children David (Marsha) Barlow of Independence, MO, Cynthia (Tony) Gooch of Windsor, England, Tom (Sheryl) Barlow of Carthage, MO and Nancy Nolte of Tulsa, OK; her sister Kathy (Del) Ranney of Lamoni, IA; grandchildren Amy, Aaron, Ed and Alan, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband T. Ed Barlow, her brother Rob Dempsey, her sister Doris Long and her granddaughter Rachael Barlow.
