Bobby J. Barnett, 83, passed away at his home on March 22, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 2:00pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm, both at Speaks Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence.
Bob was born on June 20, 1932, in Windsor, MO, to James “Red” Barnett and Wilma Alene (Egbert) Barnett. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in the class of 1950, and later graduated from Finlay Engineering College in 1957 with a civil engineering degree. He started employment with Independence Power and Light in 1959 as an Electrical Engineer and left 25 years later as the Director. He went to work for McGraw Edison as a sales engineer for one year, and retired as the director of the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission serving 15 years. Upon retirement, Bob became a woodcarver, specializing in Santa Claus and American Indian carvings. He was a guest carver at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeane; son, Stan Crumbaugh (wife, Michele); daughters, Julie Barnett, Ki Ki DesCombes (husband, Daniel), and Janet McCurry (husband, Mike); grandchildren, Kyle Crumbaugh (wife, Jennifer), Alyson Crumbaugh, Rachael Stadter, Jessica Frye, Aaron Davis, Todd DesCombes (fiancée, Tori Worsig), Christina DesCombes, Jayme Frye, and Jillian Frye; great-grandchildren, Quintin, Cameron, and Gauge; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Barnett.
Family suggests contributions in his memory to the Drumm Center for Children or to the charity of one’s choice.
