Mary Agnes Barnhard, died at the age of 106 December 19, 2004 at Rosewood Health Center. The daughter of Jacob and Kate (Anderson) Hansen she was born April 29, 1898 in Bedison, MO. She had ten brothers and sisters, all of whom predeceased her. In 1918 she moved to Independence where she worked at the Irving Pitts bookbindery. In 1920 she married Milo Barnhard, Sr. who predeceased her in 1985. She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church. She is survived by three of her four children, Milo Jr., and his wife Laurel, Barbara J. Gose and her husband, Warren, Judith S. Spillman, and her husband Pat. Her second son, Kenneth, who served his country as a Marine, was killed on Saipan in 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for bravery. Her other survivors include six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary lived the most of her adult life in Independence except for several years during the depression when she and Milo lived in Idaho while he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and she worked in a laundry. After returning to Independence for the second time she worked at Nelly Don, a garment manufacturer. Her four children all graduated from William Chrisman High School. Always interested in good government, Mary often served as an election judge and voted faithfully in every general election from 1920 until she lost her vision in the late 1990�s. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2004.
