Charles B. Barr, 92, Independence MO, died Friday, April 29, 2005, at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 3, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel; burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Monday at the Chapel. Mr. Barr was born September 26, 1912, in Lucedale, MS, to Charles S. and May (Graves) Barr. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Master Sergeant and received the Bronze Star. He worked as a layout artist in commercial advertising for Stalcup Advertising, Inc., and later Midland Advertising for over ten years. He then worked for the Social Security Administration until retirement. Upon retirement, he volunteered with the National Archives for twenty years, receiving the National Archives Volunteer of the Year Award. Charley had a variety of interests in life and loved gardening, genealogy, and baseball. He really enjoyed spending time with his family. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for over fifty years. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Kathlene; and three brothers, Robert E. Barr, Edward L. Barr, and Carlton Barr. He is survived by his wife, Venice N. Barr, of the home; three children, Arlene M. Williams, Salt Lake City, UT, Ruth B. Speaks, Lee�s Summit, MO, and Robert L. Barr, Arkansas City, KS; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Hazel Barr, Lucedale, MS; two nieces; and many other loving relatives and friends.
