Barbara Annette Barrett, age 80, of Independence passed away on May 14th, 2022 after a brief illness.
Barbara was born on April 27, 1942 to Edwin and Viola (Smith) Meinz in Defiance, MO.
She was a member of the National Honor Society at East High School and held the record for swimming the breaststroke for many years.
After moving to Kansas City she met the love of her life, Roland Barrett. They had three children and made Independence their home.
She loved being a stay at home mom and raising her children. She grew a garden, enjoyed bowling and loved playing Hand and Foot card game with her friends.
Barbara enjoyed writing and would write poems for special occasions.
She retired from Messiah Lutheran School as the cook for the elementary school in 2012 after 32 years of service.
She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and bingo, and family gatherings where she would cook for everyone; there was always plenty of food when Barbara was cooking.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Elmoore Barrett and her parents.
She is survived by her sister Norma Marek of Kansas City; her children, Randall (Michele) Keith Barrett of Independence, Robert Michael Barrett of Colorado Springs, and Lisa (Butch) Gail Rothove of Independence.
Five grandkids: Matt Barrett, Nick Barrett, Brett Winn, Joshua Winn, Kaylin Winn. Four great grandchildren, Maddilynn, Memphis, Channler, and Jackson.
Services will be held at Carson Speaks funeral home at 1501 Lexington Avenue.
