Michael A. Barrett, 78, Independence, MO passed away April 7, 2017. Services will be 11 am, Tuesday, April 11 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; entombment at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to St. Mark’s Catholic Church Gardening Ministry, 3736 S. Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055.
Michael was born April 8, 1938 In Brooklyn, NY and earned a BA in Economics from Notre Dame. He was a Vice President at Kemper Financial Services in Chicago for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of St. Mark’s Parish. He enjoyed gardening and was a former season ticket holder for the Royals and Chiefs.
Michael was preceded in death by son Michael R. Barrett. He is survived by wife Debbie Barrett, of the home; son Timothy Barrett, McHenry, IL; daughter Kathleen Wunderlich and husband Mark, Lake in the Hills, IL; step-daughter Stephanie Portlance and husband Shawn, Blue Springs, MO; sister Sheila Klicko, Baraboo, WI; grandchildren Erin, Ellie, Brett and Chase and former wife Margaret Scheuerle, Huntley, IL
