John Barszczak

May 15, 1925 — January 14, 2018

John Barszczak, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went to the waiting arms of His Savior on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his residence. John was born May 15, 1925, in Piegonisko, Poland, to Stanislaw and Marianna (Leszczynska) Barszczak. John was a survivor of the work camps of Nazi occupied Poland and Germany. Eventually, working with American troops. He immigrated to the United States in 1949 and was proud to become a United States citizen. Sponsored by a Catholic relief organization he initially settled in Clyde, MO, living at the Benedictine Convent, working on their farm. He then moved to Kansas City where he met, Virgie. They were married on March 12, 1953. He was a member of St Ann & St. Mark Catholic Church, Independence, Mo. John retired from Sheffield/Armco Steel after thirty four years of service. After retirement he traveled with his wife & family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. John is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Paula, Katherine, Sophia & Mary, and brother Stanislaw, granddaughter, Cassandra Barszczak, and grandson, Michael Brown.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virgie Barszczak; daughters, Joan Howard and husband David, Rosemary Brown and husband Ed, sons; John Barszczak and wife Kathy, Jim Barszczak and wife Vicki; grandchildren; John Barszczak and wife Sarah, Jenny Brown and husband David, Andrea Meyer and husband Rodney, and Jessica Barszczak. Great grandchildren; Lilly & Cora Barszczak, Nolan, Collin, Dotti & Della Brown, Natalie & Eli Meyer. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at St Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
