Fern Bateman, 79, of Independence, MO passed away May 6, 2014 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12, at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James Bateman. She is survived by her three children, Donna L. Nixon and husband Mark, James R. Bateman and Shari King; Charles S. Bateman and fiancé, Marcia Budd; four grandchildren, James Joshua Bateman, Jeremy Alexander Bates, Sarah Bechtold and Jacob Bechtold; 12 great grandchildren; and her dear friend, Carrie Burlingame.
