Arthur Bates

Arthur Lee Bates, 90, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 Rosewood Health Center. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Mound Grove Cemetery. Arthur was born January 9, 1917 in Independence, MO to Charles Augustus and Mary Ann (Pixley) Bates. He was a lifelong Independence resident. Mr. Bates worked for General Motors at the Fairfax plant retiring after 30 years of service. Arthur married Margaret L. Bates in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1965. He later married Juanita Brown Crabtree in 1969. She preceded him in death in 2006. Art enjoyed playing pool, cards and bingo at the Groves. Mr. Bates is survived by his daughter Mary Ann Shotts; step-daughter Kay Phenegan; step-sons William Crabtree, James Crabtree and George Crabtree; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
