David William Bates

David William Bates, 74, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on February 17, 2005 at Research Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to REAP (Raytown Emergency Assistance Program). David was born on April 12, 1931 to Thomas and Frances (Behee) Bates in Independence, MO. David graduated from William Chrisman High School and from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He retired from Marley Cooling Tower Company in 1997. David was an active member of the Raytown Community of Christ, serving in many capacities over the years. David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed golf and traveling with his family. David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth of the home, daughter, Susan Parretta (Joe), daughter Carol Hakes (Brad), son David L. Bates (Arlette). Also surviving are grandchildren Christina, Jillian, Cara, Lisa, Nicholas, and Samantha, great grandson, Dakota, and brother Thomas Bates. His parents, and sister Diane Basquette preceded him in death.
