Donald Robert Bayne, 88, of Independence, MO was born on November 30, 1917 in St. Mary�s, Ontario. He was third of four siblings, Ida, Harold, Elbert, and Floyd, who died as a child. Donald died at his home on December 21, 2005.
Donald attended Graceland College and the University of Kansas, graduating as a mechanical engineer. He worked for the city government of Kansas City and later for the Federal Government in Iowa City, Iowa. He became a U.S. citizen in 1955. Donald married Alice Marie Crossan on November 27, 1954. Their son Kirk was born on October 6, 1956.
While living 12 years in Iowa City he and his wife became foster parents to a Laotian refugee from the Vietnam War. Xiane Thepvong has a wife, Chan, and a son, Donny, and works for the University of Iowa.
Donald was an ordained minister of the Community of Christ Church and he served as pastor in Iowa City for 5 years. He also did enough work there, at the University of Iowa, to earn a masters in Engineering.
After his retirement in 1984, the Baynes lived 8 years in Wyoming where they had a home as well as the home they had built in the 1950�s in Independence. Don designed and built much of it himself.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Alice Bayne; brothers, Harold and Elbert Bayne; son Kirk Bayne; nieces, Courtney Brock, Christen Moe, Colleen Bayne and Margaret Jenkins; nephews, Ray, David and Kevin Bayne. This is a loving family, and he also leaves beloved nephews, David and Tom Crossan; nieces Kathy Stopple, Christine Howard and Suzanne Blackburn; as well as sisters-in-law, JoAnne Bayne, Mae Bayne and Mary Ann Crossan.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, at the Gudgell Park Community of Christ Church.
In the summer of 2006, the Wyoming family will gather around Lake Marie in the Rocky Mountains of the snowy range for the scattering of cremains, according to Donald and his family�s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions by Don�s friends be made to their favorite charities.
