Elbert was born July 14 1928 in St. Mary’s, Ontario Canada, to William Duncan & Mildred (Copeland) Bayne. In 1950, Elbert attended Graceland College and later, the University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. He immigrated to Independence from Canada in 1959. Elbert was married to JoAnne Dickson (formerly of Thamesville, Ontario, Canada) on August 10, 1963 at Gudgell Park RLDS. After graduation from university Elbert worked in Canada in the aircraft industry and experimental wind-farm technologies. In the United States he worked for Burns & McDonnell, Farmland Industries and was a co-owner of Clarks Manufacturing in Atherton, MO along with other jobs in engineering, optics and hardwood flooring over the years. Elbert and JoAnne have been members of Parkview Community of Christ since 1973. They moved to Independence because of their hope of Zion. Elbert was an Elder in the church and his delight was in Jesus Christ and the saints of the restored gospel. He enjoyed talking with the saints about what he found in the scriptures, sharing and listening to testimonies and visiting in homes as part of his priesthood ministry. His faith and analytical nature caused him to continually read and ponder the scriptures, church history and testimonies from the early restoration. He was gifted with a rationally inquisitive mind and a photographic memory which helped him in all his varied interests but which were most evident in intellectual discourse, teaching Sunday School classes and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Elbert is preceded in death by his sister, Ida Golder and husband Bill; brothers, Donald Bayne, Harold Bayne and wife Mae, and Floyd Bayne, and nephew Raymond Kyle Bayne. He is survived by his wife JoAnne Bayne and four children, David Bayne, Courtney Brock and husband Douglas, Cristen Moe and Colleen Bayne; three grandchildren, Mariah Moe, Elijah Brock and Emma Brock, sister-in-law, Alice Bayne; nephews, Kirk Bayne, Kevin Bayne and wife Faith; nephew, Zackery Bayne; nieces, Bethannee Bayne, Margaret Jenkins and husband Ken; and many delightful relatives in Canada and Central Missouri.
