Vernon Orville Beal, Jr. (Bud), 96, of Independence, MO passed away on January 1, 2014 at the Groves. A visitation will take place Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Bud was born on March 30, 1917 in Independence, MO to Vernon O. Beal Sr, and Emmy Lund Beal. On May 17, 1940 he married Mary Alice Jeffers Beal. Bud was a World War II Veteran and served in ETO for 22 months. He was part of the D-Day operation and the Battle of the Bulge. He worked at Standard Oil in Sugar Creek for many years, and retired from Botsford Concrete in 1982. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. He was past Commander of the VFW post 1000, and a founding member of that organization. He was also a member of the American Legion. Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice Beal, and his son Donald Ray Beal. He is survived by his daughter Ronnie Kay Brumfield and husband Frank of Independence, and a daughter-in-law; Margo Beal of Belton. He also leaves 5 grandchildren; David Brumfield and wife Tara of Belton, Frank Brumfield and wife Gina of El Dorado Springs, Valerie Beal Sullivan and husband Mikeal of Olathe, KS, Chris Beal and wife Crystal of Clinton, MO, and Robert Brumfield and wife Jessica, of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves 13 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at The Groves for their loving care the last two years. A special thanks to the The Groves Community Hospice.
