Samuel Joseph "Joe" Bedwell

Samuel Joseph, “Joe” Bedwell, 71, of Independence, passed away on December 16, 2018. A visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 from 9-10:00am with a memorial service at 10:00am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Joe was born October 5, 1947, to Carroll Victor and Marjorie Viola (Wheeler) Bedwell in Huntington, WV. He grew up in southern Indiana before moving to Independence, MO in Jr. High School. He then graduated from Truman High School in 1965 and graduated from Central Missouri State College in 1970. Joe married his beloved wife Mary Melissa Gillison in 1969. He then went on to serve in the Army National Guard, 110th Engineer Battalion from 1970-1976. He worked in Information Technology for Ford Motor Company, Panhandle Eastern Pipeline, Yellow Freight, DST and Sprint. Joe enjoyed sailing, traveling and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Bedwell. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; their daughters, Jill Maxon and Sara Mayes (Michael) and grandchildren, Nathan Roe Maxon, Aralyn Melissa Mayes, Emerson Faye Mayes and Hunter Andrew Mayes. Joe is also survived by his loving friends and many aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Restart or City Union Mission.
