Barbara Jeanne Beikman, 82, of Independence, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St. Independence, MO 64050, with interment in the Mount Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145.

Barbara was born on September 8, 2013, in Neosho, the daughter of John and Edna (Wilson) Reed.

Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Neosho High School. She had worked for the Jackson County Election Board as mapping coordinator for 17 years until her retirement on January 8, 1999. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, watching the birds, taking cruises and traveling with her beloved husband and crossword puzzles. She was known for her knowledge of many things, from the definition of words to exactly where a road started and ended.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Raymond Beikman, of the home in Independence; two daughters, Leanne Wilkinson, Kansas City; Kristen Gibson and companion, Pastor Kenny Prince, Independence; three granddaughters, Amy Smith, Alesa Hedges and Laura Wilkinson; three great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Jeanne Merkle, Connie Poplin and Cheryl Stephens; one step son, Larry Biekman; twelve step grandchildren; seven step great- grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
