Daniel M. Belcher, 88, Independence, MO passed away July 23, 2006. Memorial services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Community of Christ Liberty Street Congregation and at 2 pm, Sat., July 29 at The Groves Community Room Chapel. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Community of Christ Liberty Street Congregation.
Daniel was born Oct. 31, 1917 in Portland, OR. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he was part of the Sparrow Force-the first land-based troops fired upon by the Japanese. He rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps and served 32 months in the Pacific Theater before being transferred to the Pentagon.
He worked for 38 years in insurance adjusting for two companies and a private insurance group. He was an adjunct professor, teaching parliamentary law at Nebraska Western Community College in Scottsbluff. He served as Lieutenant Governor for Division 6 of the Rocky Mtn. District of Kiwanis and as a distinguished club President in Scottsbluff with 16 years perfect attendance. He served on the Advisory Board of St. Mary�s Hospital, was a member and president of the Scottsbluff Board of Adjustment and the Panhandle Resource Council of elected county officials for the 11 counties in the Panhandle of Nebraska. He also served on the North Platte Natural Resources Board for 20 years. After his retirement, he traveled in parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, South Dakota and Nebraska as a volunteer minister in the Community of Christ bringing support and visiting local members.
Daniel was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Danielle Saunders. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Florence M. Belcher, of the home; daughter Alice Stayton and husband Donald, St. Ann, MO; son Samuel Belcher and wife Susan, Snohomish, WA; son Dr. Charles Belcher and wife Dr. Rebecca Belcher, Maryville, MO; son Hadley Belcher, Independence, MO; sister Marie Armstrong, Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
