Florence Marie Belcher

Florence Marie Burgess Belcher of The Groves Retirement Community died on November 22nd at the facility. She was 86. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9th, at 2:00 pm at the Raytown Community of Christ Church, 6231 Manning St., Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Raytown Congregation. Mrs. Belcher was a life-long educator. She held a Master�s Degree in Education and was certified to teach K-12 in the state of Nebraska. She taught in a wide variety of venues, from the inner city to one-room country schoolhouses. She was especially adept at adult education, for which she received numerous accolades and formal recognitions. After retiring in the 1990�s, she moved to the Independence MO area, where she continued to occasionally tutor students in Math and English. She instilled a passion for learning in all she taught. Mrs. Belcher was also a life-long member of the Community of Christ Church, where she held the priesthood office of Teacher. She was known for the surety of her faith and the strength of her belief. She attended the Raytown, Liberty Street, and Stone Church Congregations until her health prevented her from attending. She was and will be missed. Mrs. Belcher is survived by a daughter, Alice Stayton of St Ann, MO, and three sons: Samuel Belcher of Snohomish, WA; Charles Belcher, PhD of Maryville, MO; and Hadley Belcher, MA of Independence, MO. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
