Harold Jean Bell, 85, of Independence, MO, passed away, Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Blue Hills Rest Home. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the chapel. Harold was born April 29, 1929 in Garnett, KS to Wilma and Joe Bell. Joe died 2 months before Harold was born. They moved to Kansas City after his mother married Wallace Kohler Huyett. He attended Benjamin Harrison Grade School and Northeast High School. He started working at Sheffield Steel later Armco Steel and worked there until he was called to duty. He served in the US Navy reserve and then the US Army. He was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. He was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA where he met and married Carolyn Parker, a nurse aide in Americus, GA. He was discharged and they moved back to Kansas City, MO where he returned to work at Armco where he later retired after 37 years. He then worked at the City of Independence and worked as a maintenance electrician for 7 years then retired again. He was a lifelong member of Fairmount Christian Church. He leaves his wife Carolyn Bell, 2 daughters, Sandra Jean Bell of Independence, MO and Judy Ann Bisacca and husband Mark and 1 grandson, Christopher Aaron Bell all of Lenexa, KS; a nephew, Dennis Joe Bell and his wife Janice and 3 children of Blue Springs, MO; a brother-in-law, Newton Baker Parker of Ideal GA and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Bell, his mother, Wilma Huyett, his step dad, Wallace Huyett and his brother, Raymond “Junior” Bell and 2 sisters-in-law, Irene Bell and Shelby Parker.
