Patricia Ann “Patsy” Bendure, 80, Oak Grove, MO died July 5, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, MO following a short illness. Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, July 10 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; entombment at Swan Lake Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Monday at the chapel. The family is planning a memorial service in the Columbus area at a later date. The family requests contributions to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, 8900 State Line Rd #333, Leawood, KS 66206.
Patsy was born August 12, 1937 to Shade Thomas and Esther Lucille Edmondson on Rogers farm by Fly Creek in Cherokee County, Kansas.
Patsy was a 1955 graduate of Cherokee County Community High School in Columbus, KS and attended classes at Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS. She became a homemaker and later worked at Class LTD in Columbus. In Kansas City, she worked as an administrative assistant with Western Fireproofing before retiring.
In 1956, she married Raymond Westervelt (divorced) and had one son, Tim Lee Westervelt (Tammy) of Scammon, KS, and three daughters, Deborah Kay Fox (David) of Columbus, Polly Ann Smith of Cherokee, KS and Julie Lyn Hirons (Michael) of Leawood, KS. She was a loving mom, raising her children in Cherokee.
In 1989, she married Dr. William (Jay) Bendure. They made their home in Independence, MO and later moved to Oak Grove, MO. For years, they owned a second home in Urich, MO and called it the Lucky Seven Ranch after their seven combined children. They also raised and raced Quarter Horses at their home as a hobby.
She was active in 4-H as a child and enjoyed spending time with family and gardening. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, rural Columbus. She was active in Independence Young Matrons, a charitable community organization in Independence. She was proud to be a 15-year survivor of breast cancer.
Patsy is survived by her husband of the home; her children and spouses; three step-children, Amanda Bendure (Kim Gearhart), Rebekah Ebert (Rick), and Jason Bendure; twelve grandchildren, Trisha Smith, Joe Smith (Shala), Jessica Westervelt, Cody Fox, Shade Hirons, Jade Peak, Elizabeth, Catherine, Madeline, and Abigail Ebert, Steven (Dana) and Michael (Megan) Gearhart; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Edmondson (Pat) and Ted Edmondson (Rebecca); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Jacey Westervelt
