Byron E. Benson, 78, Independence, MO died Aug. 25, 2005 at the Cameron Veterans Home. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm, Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner�s Burn Hospital c/o Ararat Shrine, Ararat Drive, K.C., MO 64129. Byron was born Dec. 18, 1926 in Lantry, SD. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Church of the Brethren, and a Mason #76, Independence. He worked at the GM Fairfax plant for 38 years, retiring in Dec., 1987. He worked for the Independence Bus Co. from 1995 to 2000. He was a bass guitar player for various country bands from 1965 to 1995 and was a member of the Heritage House Band from 1990 to 1995. Byron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Meda Joy Benson, of the home; sons Larry Benson, Raytown, MO; John Benson, Gladstone, MO; Ted Benson and Guy Benson; daughter Kathleen Poore, all of Independence; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
