John Berry, 88, of Independence passed away peacefully with family members present at Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Care in Independence, MO on December 5, 2017.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 9 from 1-2 pm with a service following at 2:00pm, both at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055. His interment will be 11:00am, Monday, December 11th at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, born August 3, 1929, to Henry J. Berry and Grace Humphrey in Stratford, Texas. John was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy (Cowherd) Berry of the home; daughters, Lani Kirsch (Paul) of Overland Park, KS and Diana Carlisle (Mack) of Blue Mound, KS; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Berry (Betty) of Oak Grove, MO and sister Patricia Hayes of Tennessee.
John graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia in 1947 and attended Junior College of KC. He served in the U.S. Navy Fleet Air from 1947-1950. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance for 32 years.
John was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Independence serving as a past president of the United Methodist Men. He loved to attend the Men’s Bible Study when able.
