Richard Marvin Bertke

Richard M. Bertke, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away on November 20, 2020, St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born October 10, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the son of Arnold and Martha Bertke.
He and his wife (Betty Dunscomb) were married June 18, 1960. Shortly after Richard and Betty were married, they moved to Nigeria to serve as missionaries for the Lutheran church.

When Richard and Betty returned to the United States they settled in Perryville, Mo where Richard obtained a Master’s degree in School Administration from SE Missouri State University. Richard became a school teacher and administrator for the Immanuel Lutheran school in Perryville. After retiring from teaching, Richard opened a computer store in town. After retiring as a business owner, Richard and Betty travelled all over the country and to Germany with family and friends.

Richard is survived by granddaughter, Angela Elbert; grandson Robert Elbert, grand daughter, Danielle Johnson (Tyler), great granddaughter Hayley Hollenbeck, great grandson Dalton Turner, daughter-in-law Beth Bertke, brother, Al Bertke (Darlene), and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Bertke, his son David Bertke, his daughter Diane Elbert, and his parents, Arnold and Martha Bertke.

Regrettably, due to stringent COVID restrictions, funeral and burial services will be planned for a later date.

Contributions are suggested in honor of Richard to Immanuel Lutheran School.
