Robert W. Betsworth, 79, of Independence, MO passed away May 18, 2012 at his home. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Independence, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at the church with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Janeysride.com for Immacolata Manor, Liberty, MO. Robert was born July 10, 1932 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Manual High School in 1951, and was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, 1952-1954. He was a 50 plus year member of Local 1635, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and a life member of VFW Post 18. He square danced with the Road Runner Square Dance Club for over 20 years and was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara J. Betsworth; son, James E. (Nettie Yewell) Betsworth; three daughters, Janet (Ralph) Stephens, Victoria (Bill) Dunfee, Dana Betsworth; five grandchildren, Eric Jackson, Kathryn and Cody Cash, James and Joshua Betsworth; two step grandchildren, Chris Dunfee and Heather Stephens; stepfather, Nolan (Donna) Barb; brother, Jack (Bonnie) Betsworth; sister, Saundra McFarland; brother-in-law, Robert E. (Millie) Cox; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Crossroads Hospice for their care of Bob during his final days.
